Goodreads Summary:
He has no voice, or name, only a rank, Eighth. He doesn’t know the details of the mission, only the directives that hum in his mind.

Dart the humans. Leave them where they fall.

His job is to protect his Offside. Let her do the shooting.

Until a human kills her…

Sixteen year-old Raven is at summer camp when the terrifying armored Nahx invade, annihilating entire cities, taking control of the Earth. Isolated in the wilderness, Raven and her friends have only a fragment of instruction from the human resistance.

Shelter in place.

Which seems like good advice at first. Stay put. Await rescue. Raven doesn’t like feeling helpless but what choice does she have?

Then a Nahx kills her boyfriend.

Thrown together in a violent, unfamiliar world, Eighth and Raven should feel only hate and fear. But when Raven is injured, and Eighth deserts his unit, their survival comes to depend on trusting each other…

Review

As with any other DNF books it pains me to write this review but it was definitely time to let this book go. I was really excited for Zero Repeat Forever when it first appeared on my radar. Sadly when the time came to dive in I just couldn't get into the story.

The first time I picked the book up I read about 20 pages before I set it aside to read another book. The second time I got up to 60 pages and nothing much was happening so I put it back down. I gave it a third attempt only because I had seen some readers discussing how much they loved Zero Repeat Forever. But ultimately around the 85 page mark I decided to put the book away for good. The story was too slow and just wasn't very appealing.

I found the alien POV to be interesting so I'm not saying a hard no to Zero Repeat Forever just yet. When I am more in the mood and can finally muster up the patience for its slower pacing, I'll return to see how the humans survive, what purpose(s) Eighth may serve and what exactly the aliens want on Earth. I am curious.

I know there will be a sequel so I may give Zero Repeat Forever another go when that time comes. Hopefully I'll be able to get into it. Then I can join all the other lovers of this book!

*I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinion are my own and not affected in any way.
