Goodreads Summary:
27 Dresses meets Bridget Jones’s Diary for the millennial set in Erin Lyon's I Love You Subject to the Following Terms and Conditions.

In a world where marriage doesn’t exist―only seven-year contracts―you don’t marry, you sign. You don’t divorce, you breach. And sometimes, you just expire.

Kate is struggling to find her footing. She gave up a career she hated to pursue the law, and now she’s buried in debt and unemployed. At least she’s signed to an amazing guy―hot, sweet, and committed.

Enter the contract killer, the man who pursues only signed women. No commitment, no hassle, all the fun. But Kate has enough fun on her plate… until her partner doesn’t re-up their contract.

After an epic but well-deserved meltdown, Kate gets practical. She accepts a job with her uncle’s law firm, practicing signing law―the one type of law she swore she’d never do. And the contract killer? Now that Kate is single, she’s no longer his type, but he still wants to be friends. Yeah, that’ll work. Kate may be heartbroken, but she’s not impervious to this sexy, smart, and complex man. But hey, it looks like he may not be impervious to her either―signed or not.

Hilariously relatable, with biting wit and charm, I Love You Subject to the Following Terms and Conditions is 27 Dresses meets Bridget Jones’s Diary for the millennial set.

Review

I'm going to call this book a happy accident because that's what reading I Love You Subject to the Following Terms and Conditions (boy that's a mouthful) was. I didn't mean to read it but after the sneak peek I took, I couldn't stop. I should've known better but no regrets cause I fully enjoyed what I read.

Kate is a funny enough main character. She hasn't had the best of luck with her professional life but when her perfect personal life does a 180, her whole world basically gets upended. Kate is pretty much a hot mess all throughout the book but I loved her hilarious commentaries. She's a bit self-deprecating but she's not ashamed of flaunting herself to have a good time. It's nice to see her acknowledging her hormones and admit how she has no control once they come out to play ;) Though I wouldn't call having three hot guys interested in you the worst thing, her tangled up emotions warrant her needing some space and time to figure her feelings out.

I'm a fan of witty banter and flirty conversations and I Love You Subject to the Following Terms and Conditions has both! Kate is able to have suggestive yet funny interactions with all three of her love interests. They're not exactly a love quartet but things are definitely complicated. She's got a big decision ahead of her seeing as she has a long sweet history with her ex Jonathon while the potential suitor, Dave, brings out her playful side. Not to be predictable but of the three guys I'm obviously rooting for Adam, the smoking hot contract killer who just wants to be friends with Kate (yeah right). His particular taste and Kate's recent single status actually makes her an unfit candidate for him but that doesn't stop him from feeling something for her. I love their chemistry! It burns! I really want to see them rip each other's clothes off! Ahem, I mean pour their heart and soul out to each other.

For me the excitement in the novel is in seeing Kate's choice. I'd really love to see her make a rational decision since everyone around her seems to be acting rather irrationally. This includes her best friend Logik. She's always been the comfort Kate seeks and it's so sweet to see them rely on each other. Now that Logik is in a bit of a situation herself, I'm curious to see how she will handle herself and what sort of sound advices Kate will be doling out to her.

The killer cliffhanger leaves us no closer to a conclusion ahhhh! I read on Goodreads that the author outlined the story to three novels so I suppose it makes sense to end where she did. More fun and sexy times with these characters (particularly Kate and Adam please and thank you very much), right? When do we get the next book because I need it!

  1. Not sure I get this synopsis -- is this a futuristic thing where there isn't marriage anymore, just contracts? And she has to decide who to have a contract with after her ex doesn't re-sign? And a cliffie :( :(
I can definitely see the Bridget Jones parallels - hot mess character, Hugh Grant character.... Glad you are enjoying this series so far!

    1. Yep basically marriage = a contract! It sounds a bit odd but it's not a huge deal in the book. It's more about the main character figuring out what she wants. It's fun ;)
